So a few weeks ago I went and checked out the new Challengers at the Dodge dealership out here in Katy. I must say I was very disappointed! For the price you have to pay, you aren't getting anything but a big powerful engine.
The interior and exterior cosmetics of this car wasn't even worth $12,000. I found out that the chrome looking fuel cap is actually made out of plastic, the car carries no spare, the interior gauges are identical to every Dodge vehicle they carry(you would think they would design new gauges). No person taller than 5'9 can fit in the back and having a sunroof doesn't help because it lowers the ceiling 2-3 inches. The front console is nothing special just some fake carbon fiber. ::) This list goes on but it will take me days lol
I will end on this! I give props to Dodge with the performance on the car and how powerful the engine is but they could of invested more of there production cost on the quality and uniqueness of the car's looks inside and out.

I would have to agree with you. The exterior cosmetics in my opinon are really well done, but do have room for improvement. I haven't gotten the priviledge of sitting in one yet but from the sound of it I'm not missing anything. I've heard mixed reactions about the performance end of the car but mostly what I've heard is that it is disappointing. I've also heard that it does NOT come standard with positrac? If that's true then Dodge dropped the ball hard.

It is a pretty looking car but once you get close up and check each part, the material is cheap but you can't go wrong with a 6.1l hemi ;D

Well I disagree totally with your assesment of the R/T. (of course im biased I own a R/T), this is the first Dodge ive owned since
i had a 93 dodge pick-up. the leather seats, and fit and finish is tops the best ive ever owned, and ive owned a lot of cool cars including a 04 GTO (blk, red m6), which was a nice car but the Grand Am looks really got me down. IMO. :)

Come sit an 06 GTO ;) I just thought they could of been a better vehicle when asking that much for the car. Im right about the plastic "Fake Chrome" cap for the gas tank, as well as the leg room, and sunroof opyion lowers the ceiling. Chime in with which my point aren't valid. :)

its true the Chome gas cap is plastic but then again theres alot of items on all cars aren't what you think they are,
and as far as the leg room goes all my kids are grown, im 6-3 245lbs and i can stretch the front seat back and can barely
touch the fire wall. (if i remember correctly theres not much leg room in the GTO back seat).
I owned my 04 GTO for about 15 months and you can't say enough about the LS1. and it rode nice(not as smooth as the Challenger)
but the Challenger is a better car my GTO was 33,000 and the 09 R/T was 36,000. and is more car (leather,nav,A5,sunroof,keyless
start and alot more) ;D

When I was doing paint work at Planet dodge they had several SRT Challengers which I got to drive. Interior was nice and the nave was ok, I'm biased toward aftermarket units myself. I love my Eclipse and my Pioneer I had was cool. I always swap out stereos. Factory just doesn't make them how I like them. I have to say for a car with a sticker over $40k that was selling at time for 55 to 60k with dealer markup, I would have like to see painted stripes not cheesy stickers. The auto's were ok, I would have waited for the 6 spd that was coming out. I liked the orange alot, the black was ok but the striping doesn't show up as well. I would have prefered plain jet black over the brillant black crystal also(for a old school muscle car look). Last think I have to say is they really needed better shippers. I had to w/s & buff scratches off almost ever one that was delivered and i painted a door on a Black one that couldn't be buffed out. Should be more careful with a pricey car like that. Also I was at Dodge on katy Fwy and they had a Black SRT and it was scratched also, so it wasn't just the one dealership.
I would buy an SRT 8 in orange as long as I could get a 6spd and painted srtipes since I refuse to paint my own stripes on a car I pay that much for.
I can say about the RT or V6 since those weren't out when when we stopped doing paintwork at Planet Dodge.

i took a look at a Challenger. nice looking car, waayyyy to heavy, slow at track(even Srt-8 version), and the leg room in the back looks cramped up like the newer Mustangs. In the GTOs, atleast the 06, they have really good rear legroom. The Challenger might be more car in certain aspects(navigation, keyless, A5), but performance wise a GTO will smoke it.

Yes the challengers dont perform like they should, they are very slow for 425 hp...i test drove one, and it rode like a damn yacht. Felt like driving a lincoln town car instead of a performance vehicle.

The fuel tank door is metal, really.
Check the legroom specs against the Mustang, Camaro or GTO.
Yes, a sunroof does lower the headliner.
